NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct Ideals:
I-3C.1—To promote safe and healthy working conditions
and policies that foster mutual respect, cooperation,
collaboration, competence, well-being, confidentiality,
and self-esteem in staff members.
I-4.2—To promote cooperation among professionals
and agencies and interdisciplinary collaboration
among professions concerned with addressing issues
in the health, education, and well-being of young
children, their families, and their early childhood
educators.
I-4.6—To promote knowledge and understanding of
young children and their needs. To work toward
greater societal acknowledgment of children’s rights
and greater social acceptance of responsibility for the
well-being of all children.
Division for Early Childhood Code of Ethics:
We shall demonstrate the highest standards of personal integrity, truthfulness, and honesty in all our professional activities in order to inspire the trust and confidence of the children and families and of those with whom we work.
We shall honor and respect our responsibilities to colleagues while upholding the dignity and
autonomy of colleagues and maintaining collegial interprofessional and intraprofessional
relationships.
We shall honor and respect the rights, knowledge, and skills of the multidisciplinary colleagues
with whom we work recognizing their unique contributions to children, families, and the field of
early childhood special education.
In my opinion, if all early childhood professionals continuously strive for the above ideals listed, then every early childhood program’s environment will be loving, safe, and productive for all parties involved.
